What the Saints are about -
The Perth Saints Football Club was founded in 1998 with a unique vision, and a goal to set themselves apart from the rest of the local sporting clubs. The majority of clubs were becoming too concerned with numbers and figures.
However, the Saints wanted to create a special atmosphere within the club that made the players feel like they were part of a family, and contributed to improving the club, rather than simply contributing financially - where no-one is a stranger and everyone knows each other from the President down.
The Early Years -
Staying true to this ethos, the club first entered the Western Australian Amateur and Social Soccer Association (WASSA) league in 1998, and has since enjoyed great success both on and off the field.
Over the years The Perth Saints have grown from strength to strength, from humble beginnings with only one team representing the club, to currently boasting four teams competing at the top of their respective leagues.
The Perth Saints ethos has also helped the club attract a number of high profile ex-professional and top level players, including ex -Socceroo Captain and World Cup Player Robbie Dunne, ex-Socceroo and Bradford City Goalkeeper Robbie Zabica as well as other ex-overseas and local players, all of whom are admired and respected amongst Perth’s Soccer community.
The privilege of attracting players of this caliber has seen the club gain a strong reputation and has instilled a winning mentality throughout the entire club.
The Perth Saints have also been lucky enough to secure one of the best home ground facilities in Perth in Tompkins Park on the Swan. The Multi Million dollar Clubrooms and Function Centre which is nestled on the Swan River, provides a perfect backdrop for a club that prides itself on being the best. Indeed, it would be difficult to find a more picturesque setting for the Saints to call their home.
Success, Growth and the Future -
Through their short history, the Saints ethos has also cultivated a great deal of success on the pitch, with the Club claiming the Social Division Two title in just their second season. This success saw the Saints climb their way up the divisions, capturing the Division One title in 2000, before they went on to claim the Double – winning the Social Premier League and Social Cup in 2001.
This proved the perfect foundation on which the club could grow, and in 2002 the decision was made to introduce a second Perth Saints team to complement the all conquering first side from 2001. This decision paid instant dividends, as the Perth Saints made a clean sweep of their respective leagues winning the Social Premier Championship, Social South Division One Championship and the Social Cup.
The Saints have since gone from strength to strength, claiming the Social Division One title once more and adding to that the Masters Premier League title and Masters Cup in the following years. The club was also attracting a new, younger generation of players who also embraced the Saints philosophy and now make up much of the current Perth Saints Social side.
The 2006 season has seen the club experience huge growth, with a large number of players wanting to be part of the Saints set up. The Social side has been able to start a second team and the club has also welcomed a second Masters Team giving the Perth Saints four sides representing the club.
With the success of previous seasons, world class facilities, top level players and a tight knit club atmosphere the Perth Saints are certainly set to enjoy much more success and growth in the future. And although the club is growing, and numbers are increasing, the Perth Saints still uphold the values and ideas with which the club was first established.
Indeed, there is no other club like the Perth Saints…
