DEAKS CUP TO HONOUR A LEGEND

The Perth Saints Family come together as one on Easter Monday as the Social and Masters squads battle it out in the memory of David Deakin in the Deaks Cup.

Deakin founded the Cup in 2005 and tragically passed away on the eve of the 2007 match after suffering a fatal heart attack. Now the game is a fitting tribute to a Saints favourite son who left us before his time.

February 18, 2007 will go down as a defining moment in Perth Saints history when we lost one of the greatest characters to ever grace the club. Such was the young players fondness for the Masters stalwart, he decided to buy a Cup and name it after himself with the winner of the top Masters side and top Social side to hold aloft the Deaks Cup.

The Social lads won the first two matches before the tragic death of Deakin spurred his Masters friends on to win the Cup for the first time in 2007.

A year and one month on from his passing, the Deaks Cup is again being fought for at Tompkins Park on Monday. It will be a time for all Saints players and supporters to value what we have at our special club and to celebrate a life no longer with us. After the match, a BBQ and drinks will be on for all players, family and friends to wind down the day.
