TOUGH CUP START FOR SAINTS

Perth Saints Social South Division One will have to repeat their giant killing feats of 2007 when they knocked out Premier side Stirling Panthers in the First Round of the Cup after they were drawn away to Premier side Forrestfield United. The Saints Masters will also face a tough Preliminary Round clash against Fremantle United whilst Social Premier face Chindits.
The Social South boys will again have to do the Social Cup the hard way as for the second consecutive season have to face Premier opposition in the First Round. If there is a good time to face higher opposition, it would be early in the competition and despite the gap in League quality, the Saints will have confidence that they can upset the newly promoted Forrestfield.
It was a favourable draw for the Social Premier side, handed a home fixture against North Division One side Chindits United. It is Chindits first entry into the Social leagues and they have good pedigree, with their Masters team proving an extremely strong side that has just won promotion for the second consecutive season into Division One. After a disappointing exit in Round Three to Balcatta last time out, the Saints will be looking to start a successful Cup run.
The Masters will be forced to qualify for Round One of the Masters Cup via a preliminary round against Premier side Fremantle United at Hilton Park. It will be a tough first up assignment for the newly remodeled Saints who disbanded the Premier side to form a team comprised of players from both Premier and Division Two from season 2007. Neil Martin's side are usually slow to get going in the season openers and he will be hoping his side is adequately prepared for this crunch battle against their near neighbours.
Preliminary round to be played Sunday March 30, with Round One fixtures on Sunday April 6.
