DEAKSY HONOURED IN ANNUAL CLASH

This Saturday 11th of April the Perth Saints will honour a favourite son with the traditional Deaks Cup annual match between the Masters and Social teams.

David “Deaksy” Deakin played for the Saints from 1999 and is a long time friend of Saints stalwarts such as Frank Houston and Robbie Dunn. After plenty of banter in the pub on who would win a Social v Masters match, Deaksy went a bought a trophy with his own money and named it after himself in typical fashion. A tradition was born and the Social lads won the first two “Deaks Cup’s”.

Tragically Deakin wasn’t around to see the Masters finally win the trophy for the first time in 2007 when he passed away following a heart attack whilst driving home from a Masters State team pre-season match in mid February 07’.

The annual match is now a fitting tribute to a character who was larger than life and well respected by young and old within the Saints and wider football community.

A Perth Saints Masters Select XI will tackle a Perth Saints Social Combined side this Saturday, April 11 at Tompkins Park with kick off at 1.00pm. Join the Saints for this family day with a BBQ and drinks in the Bowling Club straight after the match.
